Short Bio:

Eric Zang is a multi-instrumentalist with an emphasis in percussion. An avid explorer of traditional music from around the world, much of his experience has been within flamenco, as a percussionist, and in Middle Eastern music, playing the kaval flute and oud lute. Additional influences also include African, Latin American, and India. He can be found performing with a variety of musicians from styles such as flamenco, Greek, world and jazz fusion, and singer/songwriters, primarily in Phoenix and Sedona, Arizona. Long Bio:

Eric Zang is an avid explorer of music from around the world. His journey into exotic musical lands began during college with his fascination with traditional music and his subsequent personal discovery of hand percussion within the traditions of Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. He began his professional experience playing in a flamenco music and dance group, during which the cajon box drum became his signature instrument for his audience.

All the while, Zang found he also resonated with the impassioned and intricate melodic forms found especially in music from the Middle East, Greece, the Balkans, and on through to India. To carry him through these explorations, at home and abroad, he chose the oud lute and kaval flute of Turkey, as well as his voice. To complement this dynamic style of expression, Zang also delves into relatively minimal and peaceful music and sound, from which his most original work emerges from.

His ideal is to embody and convey the vibration and spirit of the music so that it resonates fully within himself and the audience as a shared experience. As a performer with literally a dozen groups, Zang brings a sensitive receptivity with responsive support when accompanying, and also a playful and interactive approach to improvisation. His musicianship has brought him to play with a variety of musicians and ensembles, ranging from traditional music, to world & jazz fusion, to contemporary.
